After Surgery

Please call us if there are concerns of extreme swelling, uncontrollable pain, fever, redness and any condition not already addressed with the surgeon after surgery. You may also contact us if you need a prescription, medication refill or if you have not scheduled your follow-up appointment.

For elective surgery, the surgery scheduler will schedule the first post-op appointment. For emergency surgery, please follow discharge instructions.

After surgery, you will be given Ex-Fix care instructions if appropriate.

If a prescription is needed, the surgeon will have that prepared for you to take home from surgery.

To schedule an appointment, please call our office at 239-432-5100. We will need:
  • Patient’s name, date of birth and insurance information. Legal guardian to be the one calling to schedule.
  • PCP Name
  • Referral with diagnosis
  • If an injury, what type, where/how it happened and when it happened
  • Has the patient been seen by the ER, UC or PCP?
  • Is the patient protected – splint, brace?
  • Has the patient had any imaging done? If so, where?
Unfortunately, no. Many insurances require the referral to come from your primary care provider. Our office is happy to help navigate that process with you!

If your child has recently had surgery, please call the office or an on-call provider. If there is no surgical incision beneath the cast, you may use a hair dryer on the "cool" setting to help dry out the cast. You should also call the office immediately upon opening to schedule an appointment for a cast change.

Our PAs (physician assistants) and NP (nurse practitioner) are trained medical providers. They have completed additional schooling just like our surgeons to help take care of you! In our office, they help take care of everything from fractures and sports injuries, to generalized joint and muscle pain. They can also order tests, review those tests and treat you accordingly. PAs and our NP work closely with our surgeons to provide you with the best care possible and cannot wait to meet you in the office!

Returning to sports after an injury depends on many factors, including the type of injury, the age of the patient and the type of sports the patient is involved in. Our goal is to guide our patients through the healing process and help them return to their desired activity as soon as it is safe.

Typically, an injured extremity will sustain swelling for 24-72 hours. It is reasonable to be seen once swelling has subsided in case your child’s injury requires a reduction or cast.
